Those of you who know me know that one of my passions is defending the image of nurses that is transmitted in society. The cap, the mini skirt and the neckline do not represent the real image of the nurses. Society has to make us visible as we are , the care professionals.
The College of Nurses of Barcelona has created the first “Banc d’Imatges Infermeres”. An initiative that aims to provide a solution to the constant problem of iconographic representation that we have in our profession at different levels and media, such as editorial, communication or advertising, among others.
This project, which will end in 2020 with more than 3 thousand graphic documents , will offer photographic solutions that aim to remove from the collective imagination images that are harmful to the profession and that do not respond to reality. This is the case of nurses with caps, inappropriate clothing, hypersexualized roles or performing functions subordinate to other health professionals.
The Catalan Health Institute, a good number of reference hospitals, primary care and social health centers, all of them in Catalonia, have participated in the project. This bank of nursing images will become the first initiative of public and free-to-use images made by and for nurses.
The authors of all the images that are part of the nursing image bank are the photographers Ariadna Creus and Ángel García . Personally, I want to congratulate you for your great work and professionalism in capturing nursing care in images.
