Nowadays most of the information is in digital format. Encyclopedias are no longer used. Newspapers and magazines are published in electronic format. It is clear that the way of accessing information and communicating has changed. This affects all areas, including health. The Internet has become a place with multiple resources to obtain information on topics related to health and well-being, and as a form of communication. People use the Internet to chat, share experiences or establish social relationships with health professionals or other people.
But not all the information that appears on the Internet is valid. Numerous studies show that many websites offer information that is inaccurate or incorrect. In Web 2.0, anyone can generate and publish content on the network with the intentions they consider appropriate. There are those who share their knowledge or information on a specific topic with good intentions, but others publish false content or for fraudulent purposes. If the information is not adequate, it can lead to actions that negatively affect the person’s ability to make good decisions about their health.
