Nurses investigate. After researching, the next step is to publish. It is important to remember that if we do not publish, we do not exist. Many of the publications in Nursing conferences or conferences are made using poster support. Do we nurses have the information and training to make a good poster-type presentation? In this section we will try to answer the question.
According to the Royal Spanish Academy, the word poster derives from the English poster and means a poster that is fixed on the wall without advertising purposes or having lost that character. The poster is “a scream on the wall.”
The poster has become one of the most used communication formats between researchers and nurses. The poster is made to be seen, read and commented on.
The graphic aspect is important to attract the interest of people who visit the room. Reading the poster should be less than 10 minutes.
A good design must meet the following requirements:
- Visual appeal.
- Personality
- Balance
- Aesthetic quality
- Clarity in ideas
- Synthesis
- Rigor
The seven steps to follow to make a good scientific poster are as follows:
- To plan

- Elaborate
- Review
- Move
- Introduce
Poster images must meet three requirements: visibility, quality and definition. The image must be recognized at a minimum distance of 5 meters and the detail must be appreciated at least 2 meters.
A safe option is to use Arial, Times or Verdana fonts. Texts must be readable from a minimum distance of 2 meters.
There are different programs to make posters. One of the most used is Power Point. It is important to define the dimensions before starting the poster.
