This collaboration aims to equip nurses with state-of-the-art tools to enhance their efficiency. Abridge’s latest offering, powered by Epic, merges the capabilities of Abridge’s AI platform seamlessly into existing Epic nursing workflows.
As part of the Epic Workshop program’s next phase of collaboration, Abridge, Epic, and Mayo Clinic aim to introduce new and innovative technologies in the healthcare industry. They will collaborate with Mayo’s nurses to identify the workflows where this tool will have the most significant impact. Mayo’s nurses will be invaluable in designing and testing this solution, which complements Abridge’s doctor-facing documentation product.
Ryannon Frederick, M., RN, Mayo Clinic’s chief nursing officer, emphasized the essential role of Mayo Clinic’s nursing staff in this collaboration. “We are engaging them directly in developing this technology to ensure its use meets the unique needs of nursing and patient care workflows along with regulatory requirements for ambient solutions. We are thrilled to bring the knowledge and expertise of our nursing staff to help shape the future of documentation, where documentation could happen automatically and organically.”
Nursing workflows often involve a fast-paced, multifaceted range of activities that may span multiple patients and numerous tasks. Abridge, Epic, and Mayo Clinic have worked to identify key areas where this technology can have the most significant impact.
Edwina Bhaskaran, MSN, RN, chief clinical systems and informatics officer at Mayo Clinic, highlighted the collaborative efforts to swiftly develop and refine this technology to meet the needs of nurses and patients. “The combined efforts and expertise of Abridge’s AI technology, Epic’s development, and Mayo Clinic’s nursing practice expertise will help us rapidly develop and iterate on this technology to meet our nursing workforce and patient needs.” Adding, “This technology will be shaped using the expertise of nurses who care for patients every single day. Our collective goal is to get a tool into the hands of our nurses before the end of the year.”
Dr. Shiv Rao, CEO and Founder of Abridge, expressed confidence in the potential of this collaboration to alleviate the administrative burden on nurses nationwide. Emily Barey, Vice President of Nursing at Epic, emphasized the importance of incorporating the voices of patients and nurses directly into electronic health records to enhance care outcomes.
This announcement follows successful implementations of Abridge in various healthcare systems. With a recent $150M Series C financing, including an investment from NVIDIA, Abridge continues to lead in the healthcare AI space.
